Why is it so difficult to not have a PPE (personal protective equipment) suit that more adequately protects health care and emergency services workers…?
Why can’t someone develop and manufacture a simple, mass produced impermeable one piece suit where:
- Gloves are a continuation of the sleeves and not separate
- A zippered or string tie back
- The head covering is attached to the body of the suit but not rigidly and allows for turning of the head – but the neck, chin and jaw line are completely covered
- The head covering would also have an embedded / attached rigid/non-rigid plastic face shield with breathing holes at the bottom (the breathing area would be dimpled or structured in a way that air gets in/out but liquids would be deflected (some kind of two rows of inserts)
- The suit would go over a person’s clothing, kind of like a loose, flexible scuba diving suit (not a big, bulky nor rigid suit) – it must allow for greater freedom of movement
With this get up, the person could step into the one piece PPE suit, have someone else zip or tie up the back and then get into another more protective suit.
In this fashion, everyone would have confidence that when it came time to remove the suit, the individual could peel off the suit, from the back to the front (carefully), FULLY confident that they will not have any residual Ebola detritus getting on any part of their body.
Is this a too difficult solution? Or am I somehow being irrationally naïve on this?
Would not making this kind of suit be less expensive than hospitals having to purchase all the multiple disparate PPE components…?
Would not having this kind of suit go a long way towards ameliorating or preventing any future Ebola infections…?
Someone out that must have some kind of better idea on this and/or a less expensive one – we certainly have the technology and MANY talented, smart, creative and innovative people in this country or around the world…
